50 Fun and Simple DIY Chicken Coop Plans

chicken coop design plans

After you have finished countersinking the side panels, you can screw them to the coop. Take two Oriented Strand Boards (“OSBs”) and cut them to the sizes above. After you have finished cutting the panels, use a piece of sandpaper to smooth down any splinters and rough edges. I have listed below the tools I used recently to build my own coop. You should make sure your coop has the following for each hen. This coop is a smaller version of the one mentioned above.

Coops in Action

Once the side panels are fitted, you are going to fit the floor panel into your coop. Now the floor has been inserted, screw the floor panel into the frame of the coop. Congratulations, you have now completed your coop frame.

DIY Cockatiel Nesting Box

The Nest Egg is suitable for a medium-sized flock of chickens. It has a floor space of 38 square feet and has a full-sized entrance door. The external nesting box is double-tiered to make the most of the space. The coop is also insulated, which is ideal for cooler climates.

Hennebunkport

This 4×8 chicken coop was designed to fit in smaller areas. It has a front and side door to make cleaning easy and to let the chickens. If you have been wanting a chicken coop you can now build one yourself with the help of these plans.

chicken coop design plans

Small and Friendly’s DIY Chicken Coop is functional and cheap. This coop was built with reclaimed and repurposed wood making it cheap to build. It is a great choice if you want a cheap and easy-to-maintain coop for your chickens. It has an enclosed run and is sturdy enough for the winter snow.

Medium Chicken Coop - Up to 10 Chickens

If I were to rank this coop based on the details, this would be one of the top ranked. While this is not the easiest to build, Natalie wrote every single material needed to build this coop. It’s not the easiest, but you won’t have any problem building it as long as you downloaded the PDF file from her blog. However, if you plan to coop them all the time, you need at least 10 feet each. Whether you are designing and building your own or buying something ready made our list should help to make things a bit easier for you. The location of your chicken coop is very important and there are several things to consider.

Step 12: Tie the rope off

That will take a lot of the work of building out of the equation. If you don’t have a lot of room to dedicate to your chickens (or their coop), then you might need to get creative. Your coop isn’t just a wall and roof to protect your chickens, there are things on the inside (and outside) to keep your chickens alive and healthy. For smaller bantam breeds, you’ll only need 2 square feet instead of 4. If the space is too small, your chickens will not be happy. The coop will get smelly real fast, your chicken will be stressed out, they will start pecking each other, they will get sick, and eventually, die.

A chicken tractor can include a run or not, but the entire structure is usually lightweight for hassle-free moving. Because they are designed to be moved around, chicken tractors are also relatively compact. Grab bars, or wheelbarrow-like handles, are usually included on one end so you can lift and move the coop wherever and whenever needed. Now you have completed the frame of your coop, it’s time to build the roof. This chicken coop looks to be a manlier version of the chicken condo. It is made of solid wood and also has the upgrade of being able to collect eggs without entering the coop.

The plans include detailed photographs of the sweet but sturdy-looking coop being built. This 96 square foot coop has both a full-size door and a chicken door at either end. The plans include hand-sketched dimensions of various parts and step-by-step photos of it being built. You can easily build this square-shaped plan from recycled materials, and it’s tall enough to walk into. The Clutch Hutch has a sloping roof, which allows 6 feet of head height at the front and 4 feet at the back. Below we have 46 free DIY chicken coop plans with simple step-by-step instructions.

These plans are meant for a medium to large chicken coop. Which means if you plan on raising more than just a few hens, then this could be a good match. Personally, if I were to choose one, this might be the one I’d build. The design isn’t too simple, but not unnecessarily complicated. On top of that, I prefer a wide rectangle coop instead of square because it’s more efficient.

We get asked many questions about chicken coops and building them, here are some of the most frequent ones that will help you before you start your project. The most common style and configuration is a traditional coop, with exterior nesting boxes and an open gable roof. There is a building plan for a palace chicken coop listed above. So if you’d like to have a clean looking chicken coop with lots of character, then you might want to consider the way this chicken coop was finished. Something something about the grandparents of Joy Tarter who owns a company in the US named Tarter Farm & Ranch. So, his grandparents built this chicken house in Kentucky, 1985.

If you don’t know yet, a chicken tractor is basically a portable chicken coop that can be moved easily around your yard. The first one is because chickens are good for your garden, they produce natural fertilizer, and they eat pests and weeds. Second, if they stay too long on one place, that area will become smelly. There’s no way you don’t know who Home Depot is, they’re the pros when in comes to home improvement. In this chicken coop plan, they listed every material needed and how to buy them (from their own store, obviously).

Hot weather (I'm in North Alabama) we have two doors on the coop we keep open. I have also read in numerous articles that you should not put food and water in a coop. When my chickens go to the coop at night it is to sleep. They have continual water and food available outside in the run. The most important thing in a run/coop is to keep it clean. I pick up poop every morning, turn the hay in the coop, rake the run and get rid of uneaten scraps.

This design also has doors for easy access to the nesting boxes. It is also raised off the ground, making it great for areas that tend to flood. Overall it is a great choice if you are looking for a simple and basic coop. The plans include detailed photos of all the steps from start to finish. It has 28 square feet of floor space and can house 7-12 chickens.

The House votes for possible TikTok ban in the U.S., but don’t expect the app to go away any time soon

In 2020, federal courts blocked an executive order issued by then-President Trump to ban TikTok after the company sued on the grounds that the order violated free speech and due process rights. His administration brokered a deal that would have had U.S. corporations Oracle and Walmart take a large stake in TikTok. The sale never went through for a number of reasons; one was China, which imposed stricter export controls on its technology providers. The House’s overwhelming vote to ban TikTok unless it is freed from Chinese control suggests that a ban might be coming soon. The company has indicated that it would likely go to court to try to block the law if it passes, arguing it would deprive the app’s millions of users of their 1st Amendment rights.

Located in Arlington

When the customer comes in, I don’t want them to think about getting coffee, but to think they are supporting the community…I want to be welcoming – I want to create relationships with customers.

Kaldis Social House has a simple philosophy… when it comes to coffee, only sourcing the best from counter culture coffee roaster. We stock teas from Harney and Sons, our juices are freshly squeezed upon order. Located just off Georgia Avenue, Kaldi’s has large windows, with a glass door Inside, the lighting is muted, and the concrete floors are complimented by oversized leather chairs and wooden tables. It feels like one spacious living room, with a long coffee bar in the center of the space like a hearth. Nadya Okamoto, a content creator who has roughly 4 million followers on TikTok, said she has been having conversations with other creators who are experiencing “so much anger and anxiety” about the bill and how it’s going to affect their lives. The 26-year-old, whose company, August, sells menstrual products and is known for her advocacy around destigmatizing menstrual periods, makes most of her income from TikTok.

I takes my time to personally train and empower them so that the people who make the coffee are just as happy as those who order it. For me, this is not just an investment in the future of the coffee shop, but an investment in the community. The U.S. government has not publicly provided evidence that shows TikTok shared U.S. user data with the Chinese government or tinkered with the company’s popular algorithm, which influences what Americans see. Since opening in 2014, the staff has grown from four to over 30, and the store has expanded to more than double its original café space. He said he thinks there could have been less restrictive ways to go after the company that wouldn’t result in a total ban or threaten free speech.

kaldis social house

TikTok has denied assertions that it could be used as a tool of the Chinese government and has said it has not shared U.S. user data with Chinese authorities. The bill’s quick path through Congress is extraordinary because it targets one company and because Congress has taken a hands-off approach to tech regulation for decades. Lawmakers had failed to act despite efforts to protect children online, safeguard users’ privacy and make companies more liable for content posted on their platforms, among other measures. But the TikTok ban reflects widespread concerns from lawmakers about China.

Since mid-March, TikTok has spent $5 million on TV ads opposing the legislation, according to AdImpact, an advertising tracking firm. The ads have included a diverse group of content creators, including a nun, extolling the positive impacts of the platform on their lives and arguing a ban would trample on the 1st Amendment. The company has also encouraged its users to contact Congress, and some lawmakers have received profanity-laced calls. The company has good reason to think a legal challenge could be successful, having seen some success in previous legal fights over its operations in the U.S. In November, a federal judge blocked a Montana law that would ban TikTok use across the state after the company and five content creators who use the platform sued. Members of both parties, along with intelligence officials, have worried that Chinese authorities could force ByteDance to hand over American user data or direct the company to suppress or boost TikTok content favorable to its interests.

Dozens of states and the federal government have put in place TikTok bans on government devices. Texas’ ban was challenged last year by the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University, which argued in a lawsuit that the policy was impeding academic freedom because it extended to public universities. After UMG pulled its catalog from the app and as political pressure - or even a domestic ban - threatens its viability, artists and their creative and business teams are pondering a world without it. Pacific Tavern opened in May 2010 and is located inside the Smith Hotel Brooklyn. Since then, Golden Spork winner Chef Lang has been serving both quality interpretations of classic dishes and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of food.

For some, TikTok is a path to riches and the American dream. With a ban, it could all disappear

TikTok has lobbied hard against the legislation, pushing the app’s 170 million U.S. users — many of whom are young — to call Congress and voice opposition. But the ferocity of the pushback angered lawmakers on Capitol Hill, where there is broad concern about Chinese threats to the U.S. and where few members use the platform themselves. A standalone bill with a shorter, six-month selling deadline passed the House in March by an overwhelming bipartisan vote as Democrats and Republicans voiced national security concerns about the app’s owner, the Chinese technology firm ByteDance Ltd.

The House has passed legislation that would ban TikTok in the United States if the popular social media platform’s China-based owner doesn’t sell its stake within a year, but don’t expect the app to go away any time soon. 4 Inch Lifted Subaru Outback Wilderness: The ADF Wildebeest

anderson design and fabrication

Having ditch lights lets the driver see potential hazards on the side of the vehicle. Things like downed trees that could break out a window, or large rocks that might not be easily visible can be illuminated with a set of properly aimed ditch lights. And of course, these were mounted using a set of ADF ditch light brackets. Patrick designed a five inch spacer to replace the one inch version that came on the stock Outback Wilderness. You can see it tucked up against the unibody of the Subaru above the sway bar reinforcement brackets. The Method 314 wheels in 17×7.5 come with a 30mm offset and they opted to install a one inch spacer to help bring the wheels out even further.

Your cart

Patrick and his brother both mentioned how well the Patagonias ride on the streets without without sacrificing offroad grip. Safeguard your vehicle against unexpected damages, both on and off the open road. Be prepared for any adventure that may come your way, ready to embrace the unknown at a moment's notice.

I live roughly 3.5 hours from Pat but I have wanted to photograph their 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness since I first saw it on their Instagram. The car technically belongs to Cody Anderson who, as the name implies, is Patrick’s brother. It has been lifted an additional four inches over the factory one inch lift that the car came with.

I appreciate that Subaru has begun to cater to the large group of enthusiasts who have been offroading their cars for years by creating more trail-friendly vehicles. The Wilderness Edition is a step in the right direction and seeing people modifying them further is even more encouraging. Little things like these spacers and mounts are what often get overlooked when thinking about lifting a Subaru more than two inches. Most folks completely forget the extra work involved with lifting to three inches and above.

FORESTER

This helps the car handle better with a wider track and adds an aggressive look. Every part that he built brings the car’s suspension and drivetrain angles back within factory spec. They have also been powder coated in a matching Wilderness Edition gold/bronze to protect them against corrosion that would eventually cause rust.

Ground Clearance After The Lift

But with the OBWE being a wagon, there is a drone in the vehicle at certain RPM’s that makes it a little hard to use as a family car. Patrick plans to install their dual chamber muffler to quiet it down even more for daily driving comfort. You’ll also notice the grade 10 stainless steel bolts and powder coating that has been applied to the spacers. Since these components are in direct contact with the unibody, it’s important that they don’t rust and cause permanent damage to the car. Simply painting a spacer usually doesn’t prevent rust since it eventually wears off. The team over at ADF fitted the Outback with a set of Milestar Patagonia A/T Pro tires in a massive 265/65R17.

While the Outback will never be a Jeep or a “real” 4×4, they can be fantastic cars for heading off the pavement. The biggest thing in my opinion is the shorter gearing of the Outback Wilderness. This means that the Wilderness Edition has a bit more torque at lower speeds which makes it great for offroad use –  especially when climbing steep inclines. One of the most common mistakes I see among Subaru owners is trying to recover their car from the front tow point. I’ve seen them rip right out of bumpers creating a deadly hazard and I routinely try to warn people about the dangers of it. The team at ADF got to work and started designing a wind fairing to cut down on drag and wind noise.

anderson design and fabrication

At ADF, nestled in Estacada, Oregon, our expertise lies in crafting premium Subaru lift kits and accessories, designed to unleash the untapped off-road potential of your Subaru. Our team's rich background in Mechanical and Architectural Engineering, along with specialized knowledge in Subaru mechanics, fuels our commitment to innovation. We're constantly exploring new frontiers in product development, eager to bring our groundbreaking creations to Subaru enthusiasts around the world. In order to lift a Subaru correctly, the CV axles, control arms, driveline, and a slew of other components need to be kept within a certain margin of error compared to their stock location.

With the extra lighting, you can get a clear picture of any damage that may have occurred and see which parts need to be fixed without fumbling around with a flashlight. In recent years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting and befriending Patrick. I’m regularly impressed by the technical innovation within his business and his relentless commitment to growing a brand that produces some of the strongest parts for offroad Subarus. ADF Rear Strut Spacers are designed to accommodate for varying loads or to level uneven vehicles. Failing to correct the driveline angles may result in vibration and premature u-joint failure.

Paired with the 17 inch Method 314 wheels, they look great and give the car all the grip it could ever need on the trails. It took Patrick weeks to build this lift kit by hand, but I think the final product has been well worth it. Innovation and continuing to push the limits of the Subaru platform is what they seem to do best at ADF and this build further cements that reputation. However, if your vehicle is out of warranty or if you don’t mind the risk, a bigger CVT cooler is a great way to keep the temps lower after a bigger tire installation.

But if you’re willing to put in the time to do it right, the finished product is awesome. Once the front subframe is lowered correctly, the transmission and driveline also need to follow suit. Pat fabbed up a custom transmission mount support bracket to replace the factory one and to allow the CVT to sit lower. He then installed a carrier bearing spacer to let the drive shaft angles return to the correct position.

In order to do this, the 3 inch front subframe spacers, 2.25 inch carrier bearing spacers, and the 5 inch rear multilink spacers all help to achieve optimal angles. Check out the photos I took of the custom mounts and spacers Patrick built. One thing that I really like is how Patrick designed a long support bracket to tie in the front and back rear subframe spacers for additional structural integrity. When a vehicle gets lifted this high above stock, retaining rigidity around the various chassis components is important for proper handling and safety.

They also installed a set of Diode Dynamics rock lights in the wheel wells. While some people might install them just for looks, I actually really like being able to see where the obstacles are under my car when I’m in rock gardens or other rugged sections of the trail. Your spotter can also use rock lights to determine how to properly guide you through difficult segments without damaging your undercarriage. Gear up your Toyota Highlander for off-road exploration with our high-performance adventuring products. From durable skid plates to specialized suspension components, enhance your journey with style and rugged reliability.

This allows the CV axles and the front control arms to sit close to their intended angles without causing damage. In my opinion, and the opinion of many other enthusiasts, the biggest drawback with the current model Subarus for offroading is the CVT transmission. They’re very efficient and smooth but they don’t give as much room for driver input and don’t take well to prolonged “abuse” on the trails.

The 265/65R17 tires measure out to about 30.5 inches in overall diameter which is usually not a size that would fit on a Subaru. But with the 4 inch custom lift, they fit on the car perfectly without any rubbing issues. If someone wants to install a bigger cooler, it may be wise to consult with your dealership first. Ask to speak with the Service Director if possible and explain that you want to make some improvements to the car’s reliability since you plan on driving it the way it was intended. You can get a feeling for how they will handle warranty claims if you have aftermarket parts on your car. They currently have a 3 inch cat back exhaust with 5 inch single can mufflers.

Cruise Missiles Rise To Top Of U S. Weapons Agenda

what are cruise missiles

The Tomahawk sea-launched cruise missile (SLCM) and the Tomahawk ground-launched cruise missile (GLCM) had a length of 6.4 m (21 feet), a diameter of 53 cm (21 inches), and a range of 2,500 km (1,550 miles). Although the consensus is that Tomahawks are a highly successful weapon, these weapons have several limitations. One of these is that their flight paths are relatively predictable, which is a function of the fact that some terrain, notably deserts, provides relatively few features for terrain following guidance. A second problem is that mission planning for terrain following guidance systems is more time consuming and complicated in terms of intelligence requirements than one might expect. For example, to use Tomahawks a unit would have to request a targeting package from such agencies as the Defense Mapping Agency to gather the data necessary for a mission. A third limitation was that Tomahawks could not be used against hardened targets because the 1,000 pound warhead, the weapon’s accuracy, and its final kinetic energy when it hits the target do not produce high probabilities of kill.

Long-range subsonic

Some cruise missiles can only fly at extremely high altitudes, and then they descend steeply once they’ve reached their destination. Higher-altitude flight uses less fuel than lower-altitude flight, allowing the missile to travel further. Unfortunately, modern radars and sensors are often set up to identify and track threats at high altitudes, making the missile more vulnerable to missile defense systems. According to the Federation of American Scientists, a ballistic missile is one that has a ballistic trajectory over most of its flight path.

During this phase, which can last for less than a minute, strategic warheads can be traveling at speeds greater than 3,200 kilometers per hour (1,988 miles per hour). Once it is close to the target, the missile switches to a "terminal guidance system" to choose the point of impact. The point of impact could be pre-programmed by the GPS or Tercom system.

Tomahawks can also use their onboard cameras to transmit battle-damage assessment data back to military analysts. Several publications, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and the Wall Street Journal expect the U.S. to use cruise missiles if the Obama administration does order strikes. Anonymous senior U.S. officials told NBC that a three-day cruise missile barrage against the Assad regime is possible. Yesterday, President Obama said he had not made a decision on whether to intervene in Syria. Since then, cruise missile guidance systems have improved, but the overall limitations of the weapon system remain. The war in Ukraine will likely impart lessons on the next generation of cruise missiles, but the platform isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.

Tomahawk cruise missiles during the Persian Gulf War has heightened interest in cruise missile acquisition in many countries. And the extent to which Biden’s national security team supports conventional hypersonic cruise missiles is not yet apparent. Part of the broader appeal of hypersonic weapons to nations like Russia, China, and the United States is that the speed and trajectories of the missiles make them harder to detect than ICBMs. The ballistic arc of ICBMs means the launch is visible to radar while it is still ascending, once it clears the horizon line.

The Block II TLAM-A missile achieved initial operating capability in 1984. The missile was first deployed in combat during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Among the diverse guidance methods, Digital Scene Matching Area Correlation (DSMAC) relies on an onboard camera to identify the target. This image is then compared to a stored reference image using an image correlator, accentuating the missile’s ability to refine target identification during the terminal phase.

600 American Cruise Missiles Versus The Chinese Fleet: How One U.S. Munition Could Decide Taiwan’s Fate

The US signed a foreign military sales (FMS) agreement with the UK in 1995 to supply 65 Tomahawks for use with the Royal Navy nuclear submarines. It can be armed with a nuclear or unitary warhead or a conventional submunitions dispenser with combined-effect bomblets. The Tomahawk Block IV missiles were converted and upgraded to Block V in 2017. The upgraded Tomahawk includes extended range, enhanced navigation and communication systems and modernised data-link radio.

Cruise missiles have an 8.5-foot (2.61-meter) wingspan, are powered by turbofan engines and can fly 500 to 1,000 miles (805 to 1,610 km) depending on the configuration. After the war, the U.S., with the help of captured German technology and scientists, built its own arsenal of even more powerful intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) capable of unleashing nuclear destruction upon targets on the other side of the world. The Soviet Union and China built ICBMs as well, setting up a world where a nuclear war was deterred by the prospect of mutual assured destruction. Things got real, though, on Jan. 7, 2020, when Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles at two Iraqi military bases housing U.S. troops. It was Iran's retaliation for the U.S. drone strike that killed Iran Gen. Qassem Soleimani on Jan. 3, 2020.

They can be launched from ground, airplane, and sea platforms like submarines and surface warships. Three main versions of the cruise missile were being manufactured in the United States during the mid-1980s. All were single-stage, turbofan jet-propelled missiles with a cruising speed of 885 km per hour (550 miles per hour) and weighed from 1,200 to 1,800 kg (2,700 to 3,900 pounds) each. The missiles were guided by an inertial navigation system that was updated during flight by a technique called Tercom (terrain contour matching), using contour maps stored in the system’s computerized memory. The air-launched cruise missile (ALCM) had a length of 6.3 m (20.7 feet); it attained a range of 2,500 km (1,500 miles).

what are cruise missiles

In October 2017, Russia began cruise missile strikes against so-called terrorist targets in Syria. These Novator 3M14 Kalibr cruise missiles are very similar to Tomahawk missiles, but use Russia’s GLONASS satellite navigation system, an alternative to the American GPS. Early Tomahawk cruise missiles followed a pre-programmed flight path to target using a system called terrain contour matching (TERCOM). In TERCOM, a radar altimeter scans the terrain below the missile, then compares it to a terrain elevation map stored in its onboard computer brain.

Even though cruise missiles are cheaper, more mobile, and more versatile, ballistic missiles are among the most feared armaments in existence. No nation has launched an ICBM as an act of war against another nation, although some nations have tested these missiles during training exercises. According to one definition, a sub-orbital space flight reaches an altitude greater than 100 kilometers above the Earth’s surface. At this altitude, known as the Kármán line, once the fuel runs out, the missile’s direction cannot be altered; it follows a path based on the speed of its launch and the force of gravity attempting to pull it back to the Earth’s surface. Gravity eventually guides the missile and its payload toward its intended target, which could be a chemical or biological weapon or a nuclear device.

The DSMAC system uses a camera and an image correlator to find the target, and is especially useful if the target is moving. A cruise missile can also be equipped with thermal imaging or illumination sensors (as used in smart bombs). Cruise missiles come in a number of variations (see the links at the end of the article for more information) and can be launched from submarines, destroyers or aircraft. In 2017, North Korea unexpectedly staged a test launch of what was then a new ballistic missile, the Pukguksong-2.

There were no casualties and Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif defended the missile strike on the U.S. bases in Iraq, saying it was an act of "self-defense." In the Soviet Union, Sergei Korolev headed the GIRD-06 cruise missile project from 1932 to 1939, which used a rocket-powered boost-glide bomb design. The 06/III (RP-216) and 06/IV (RP-212) contained gyroscopic guidance systems.[5] The vehicle was designed to boost to 28 km altitude and glide a distance of 280 km, but test flights in 1934 and 1936 only reached an altitude of 500 meters. Meanwhile, new versions of the Lockheed Martin AGM-158 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and the Tomahawk missiles are set to enter production. Finally, a new class of air vehicle that blurs the line between a cruise missile and an unmanned aircraft system is gaining traction. Compared to China, Taiwan is tiny, less wealthy on a national level and isolated.

The Tomahawk is designed to operate at very low altitudes while maintaining high-subsonic speeds. Its modular design enables the integration of numerous types of warheads, guidance and control systems. The US Navy will use the upgraded Tomahawk cruise missiles beyond 2040. Raytheon was contracted to integrate the upgraded navigation and communication systems into the Block IV Tactical Tomahawk (TACTOM) missile in March 2020. Infrared (IR) guidance presents yet another terminal phase technique, steering missiles toward heat-emitting sources like engines. Despite its efficacy, IR guidance’s simplicity renders it incapable of distinguishing between friendly, adversarial, or extraneous IR signals in crowded battlefields.

A Guide to Fort Lauderdale Cruise Port Everglades 2024

cruise terminal fort lauderdale fl

Knowing where to embark on your cruise is an important piece of info. Docking terminals are assigned based on the type and size of the vessel. You can reach the taxi area by following the signs for airport ground transportation when exiting your airline terminal.

Getting from Miami International Airport to Port Everglades

Port Everglades' cruise ship tourism-related operations have a total annual economic value of nearly USD 30 billion. It is accounted for approx 160,000 jobs (port-related businesses), including ~11,400 jobs in companies directly providing services to the port. On average, each cruise vessel generates approx USD 2,2 million in revenue for local businesses.

How to get to the port

In Sunrise (12801 W. Sunrise Boulevard), this mall offers 350 name-brand outlets and value shops -- everything from Nike to Kate Spade to Gucci, Lululemon, Tory Burch and Tommy Hilfiger. There's also a movie and IMAX theater as well as a variety of restaurants. Paul Maison de Qualite and SushiGami are two of our favorites. The mall is a 25- to 35-minute drive from Port Everglades. These hotels are also less than 10 minutes from the port but are a great value -- on both points and in cash -- most nights of the year. Be sure to price out both the cash and points price to find the best value.

The cruise terminals at Port Everglades are spread out compared to many other ports like Miami. Given the higher number of terminals, most people cruise from Midport facilities. Beware that the drive from the MIA airport to Port Everglades can take between 45 to 90 minutes, depending on traffic. It may be best to pre-arrange a private car service so the cost doesn't vary based on traffic, which can add up. The next closest major airport is in Miami, which is about 30 miles away from Port Everglades.

That means you can drive and arrive when you want, and then head home the second you get off the ship. Given the number of parking spots at the port, you don’t have to reserve a spot ahead of time. Port Everglades cruise port in Fort Lauderdale, is one of the three busiest cruise ports in the world.

Checking InMost cruise lines have moved to allow passengers to check in online ahead of time. If you choose to do this, you’ll board with your boarding documents but be able to skip the traditional check-in lines. Your cabin keycard will be in a sealed envelope at your cabin door.

The good news is that it’s no big deal and in most cases can be done in 15 minutes or less. As you approach the port, you’ll see the signs for the passenger drop-off and pick-up areas. Pull up to the appropriate spot and you’ll be able to unload and load passengers. Please note that the cruise lines with options from Port Everglades may change slightly each year. If arriving at the port by car, you can easily access Port Everglades via major highways such as Interstate 595, U.S.

There’s no need to remove things like liquids from your luggage, nor do you need to remove shoes, belts, or laptops. If this is how your ship boards, we suggest actually arriving later in the boarding window. There is often a rush of passengers right at the start of boarding — and the ship may not be ready to accept passengers. In other words, if you don’t want the possibility of having to wait around to board, then arrive later in the window. The second method is the classic boarding window, though it seems fewer ships use this method now. Before you can get onto the ship, you have to check in and pass through security.
